The evening will feature a free screening of the first episode of the new series  A&E’s Accused: Did I Do It?, spotlighting the Nicolae Mui case and the tragic events on the Apple River in 2022 that left Isaac Schuman dead and several injured.

 

Following the screening, you’ll gain unique insights as Aaron Nelson, Nicolae Mui’s criminal defense attorney and founding attorney of Nelson Defense Group, shares his expert perspective on the case and addresses your questions in an engaging Q&A session.

Following the screening, Aaron Nelson, Nicolae Mui’s criminal defense attorney, will share his expert perspective on the case and address questions in an engaging discussion. We’ll answer your questions and explore key questions including:

A&E’s Accused: Did I Do It?

A&E announced the new series Accused: Did I Do It?, a spin-off of the popular documentary series Accused: Guilty or Innocent? from the original series. The first episode features the case of Nicolae Miu—found guilty in the 2022 Apple River stabbing, which left Isaac Schuman dead and several others injured. It spotlights Aaron A. Nelson's legal representation and expert perspective as he defended his client who maintains he acted in self-defense.

Aaron Nelson

Over his many years dedicated to defending humans against the power of the government, Aaron has received numerous recognitions including being named one of 50 Super Lawyers in Criminal Defense in Wisconsin (2011-2024), being AV-rated by Martindale Hubbard, winning the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (WACDL) “Martin Hanson Advocates Prize” a record eight (8) times (2010, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2023), and in 2014 he was honored with David Niblack Award from WACDL.

The David C. Niblack Award was created to honor and preserve the memory of David Niblack, “an outstanding attorney who devoted his life and considerable talents to the defense of those who needed it but could not pay for it.” Recipients of the award are attorneys being recognized for contributions to the effective defense of the indigent, either through cumulative career contributions or through outstanding individual accomplishments. Aaron has also previously served as the WACDL president.

In 2023 Aaron joined two other criminal defense lawyers to form Elite Defense Group. Aaron practices throughout the state with the Elite Defense Group team.

Aaron also routinely presents to other attorneys at numerous Continuing Legal Education courses throughout Wisconsin (Wisconsin State Public Defender Conference, Wisconsin State Public Defender Trial Skills training), WACDL, Barry Cohen’s annual OWI seminar, as well as nationally at the National College of Criminal Defense.
